There's something undeniably enchanting about European train travel; imagine gliding past breathtaking landscapes, from sun-drenched vineyards to snow-capped mountains, while savoring a glass of local wine in the comfort of a cushioned seat. If you're seeking a convenient, eco-friendly, and scenic way to explore the Europe then taking a scenic train journey in Europe should part of your itinerary. Europe is well connected by efficient high-speed trains that can travel up to 200 mph. As a travel advisor, Certified Rail Expert and custom trip designer, I often incorporate high speed European trains into our clients' itineraries to save them costs, time and maximize their vacation experiences. For example, on a recent Rhine River cruise itinerary we had our clients fly into Paris rather than Zurich to save time and money on a direct, non-stop flight. They stayed at convenient center city hotel by the train station and had time to stroll the beautiful Champs-Élysées with spring flowers and enjoy a nice meal (any meal in Paris is nice). The next morning after breakfast they boarded a relaxing and scenic 3-hour high speed train to Basel, Switzerland to start their Rhine River cruise to Amsterdam. After spending a couple of fun days post cruise in Amsterdam, some of our clients took a 4-hour high-speed Eurostar train to London to enjoy this city before flying home directly on an economical non-stop flight while others opted for a high-speed 3- hour direct train ride back to Paris for another fun evening before boarding a lower cost direct nonstop air flight back to the USA. Read on for a complete guide to European train travel tips, benefits, train types and top routes to consider on your next adventure.
